Last Updated on November 26, 2022 by Holly Anne Dustin

Holidays, birthdays, gotcha days, show wins, or just because we feel like it.  We cat lovers never want to miss an opportunity to spoil our furballs. You can certainly spoil them easily with things you can find around home, but  If you are looking to buy something spectacular, consider one of the ideas in this gift guide for cats.

If you are looking for other gift ideas for cats or cat lovers, try this post here.

Self Play Toys:

Self play toys for cats are toys that the cat can play with by himself. Of course, adding yourself into the game makes it even more fun. I have a few cats that will happily play fetch with me if I get the right toy out.

Treeno’s will definitely fetch his favorite toy in the world. His is a Catnip Pickle. He loves them. He’ll carry them around and sing to them. He’s tried to steal them from pet stores, I can get him to do just about anything if I involve his precious pickles. Matisse will play fetch forever with a spring toy.

Yeowww! Catnip toys are popular with just about every cat. There is something special about their catnip. The banana and the rainbow are super popular with my cats. There’s a whole series of Christmas toys too. You can pick from a Candy Cane, a cute stocking, or a Christmas tree.

There are a lot of really cute themed sets of self play toys on the market right now.  Perhaps your cat would like a deluxe set of Sushi catnip toys or a wine and cheese toy set.

Electronic Toys

Adding an electronic aspect to self play toys ups the fun for some cats. We’ve had some successes and some big fail with expensive, over engineered, toys that don’t attract the cats at all. Hexbugs are popular for a low financial risk entry into the world of electronic toys. There are some other options that my cats have tried in our Smart Pet Products post here.

Interactive Toys

Interactive toys are toys that you and your cat will use to play together. Cats tend to have a preference for air or ground play. If your cat loves to chase bugs and can catch any fly, then he will most likely prefer a toy that will have him jumping and flying in the air. A mouser will prefer the kind of toy that will have him stalking a toy on the ground. The Retractable Wand feather teaser with 5 attachments has choices that will keep both air prey cats and ground prey cats happy.

Cat dancer is one of those toys that you don’t get why it is cool when you see it in the store. It’s bits of rolled cardboard on a wire. But when you pull it out of the bag and let your cat see it you’ll understand. Flyer Cats go crazy for it. And the price is definitely right. Cat Charmer is another inexpensive option. This one will keep your ground prey cats happy.

Ball Track

Every cat needs a ball track. Maybe more than one. These two have been popular with my cats.

Tri-level ball roller track is still popular even for a 15 year old cat. If your kitty likes this type of toy you can get a holiday version at Chewy.

Every kitten needs a Bergen Turboscratcher. It is a scratcher and a ball track in one.  There are some upgrades to the toy that can make it even more fun.

Fancy Shapes Scratcher

Providing Kitty with a variety of scratchers keeps her excited and your furniture safe. You can get a simple flat box of corrugated cardboard, but why not make it more fun? You can even add a ball track element with the Kitty Tippy Scratch n’ Track.

How about a scratcher that’s also a bed like the Petstages Easy Life Hammock scratcher.

For some real fun, what about a skateboard or turntable?

Special Bed

Maybe your cat needs a new bed. A hideout bed like this tent is fun for most cats.

Your senior cat would probably be thrilled to get a gift of a warming bed to soothe her achy joints.

I’m sure you’ve seen the cute pictures of kitties cuddled up in a doll bed. The Duktig Doll Bed from Ikea (also available here at Amazon) comes with a little bedding set. You can always use a flat cat bed instead of the mattress. Really make it nice with a self-warming mat.

Luxury Tower

Want to go over the top? Get Kitty a luxury cat tower. There are plenty of options beyond the carpet coated cat tree. Designers have realized that we cat lovers want to give our cats everything but still have some style in our home.

This modern tree offers a unique design.

Hauspanther is another great line of cat furniture designed to please you and thrill your cat. The Cubitat is a nice multi-level bed/hideout for a cat that likes a lower habitat.

Modern not your thing? Give Kitty a forest of her own to hang out in. It comes in a lot of different sizes colors to match your favorite season.

Window Seat

Enrich your kitty’s environment with a new window seat so he can see the birds outside. I like this one because it  doesn’t rely on suction cups and will hold up to 40 pounds of cats.

Food Puzzle Toys

The Catit Senses system combines a lot of elements if you put it all together. There’s a ball track, two different food puzzles, a fountain, a grass planter and more.

AmazonBasics Pet Activity Center is another puzzle game for cats.

Fountain

Fountains are great for getting Kitty to drink more. Adding hydration is important for cats. Fountains are also fun enrichment. I have a hard time with fountains here because Midnight likes to take them apart. But I recommend you try a fountain for your cats. Or add another if you have one already.

This is the only one that I have ever tried that was Midnight-proof (he can still take the top off and the filter out!)

This one looks luxurious and stylish. Normal cats, not like Midnight, would enjoy this one. And for those who don’t love the moving water, there’s a dish on one side. I would recommend putting it on a mat, it’s easy for cats to splash it.

Check out Thirsty Cat Fountains for the real top of the line. They are beautiful, custom-made, ceramic fountains.

Raised Dishes

Another great option for a gift for an older cat. Raising a cat’s dish makes it easier for him to eat. Any arthritis in his neck and spine will make it painful for him to eat. Not having to reach down to get his food will ease this and make him able to eat more. A cat with digestive issues can benefit too.

I really like this one. The bowl comes off and it’s adjustable to suit your cat. It’s stainless so it won’t cause feline acne. I think Plush definitely has this one on his wishlist. It has a lip inside the edge that will help keep the food in the bowl for his little squishy Persian face.
