Benefits of Mobile Grooming for You and Your Kitty

Last Updated on May 11, 2021 by Holly Anne Dustin

There are many reasons why you might want to have your cat professionally groomed. Maybe you’re dealing with matting. Or an older cat that just can’t take care of his backside anymore because of some arthritis. Or your new rescue cat just will not let you cut her nails without freaking out and trying to bite you.

But your kitty is probably not a fan of the idea of getting stuffed in her carrier, driving across town, and ending up in an unfamiliar place with funny smells, dogs barking and other loud noises.  She might even think she’s at the vet!

Mobile grooming is your answer. Mobile grooming provides benefits to you and your kitty and makes it safer for your groomer. The ride to a grooming salon and unfamiliar environment set off Kitty’s fight or flight reaction.  She’s more likely to scratch or bite, and not be forgiving of the grooming process. The groomer has to work faster to complete the groom before kitty loses patience.

Mobile Grooming is Less Stressful for Your Furbaby

  • Kitty is at home in his or her own environment.
  • No travel required.
  • No dogs or other cats to stress them out.
  • Less anxiety leads to a better grooming experience for all.

Mobile Grooming Considers the Needs of Your Feline Friends

  • One-on-One attention to your cat. Your kitty will be the only focus of your groomer’s attention during his appointment.
  • No waiting around in a cage for his turn in the bath or for you to come pick him up.
  • Not sitting in a cage dryer between stages of the groom.

Mobile Grooming is More Convenient for the Pet Parent

  • You schedule for a time you’re going to be home.
  • No loading up the kids for repeat trips to drop off and pick up the cat at the groomers.
  • You are free to handle other chores or activities around your house.
  • Don’t have to catch the cat and put him in a carrier, just shut the bathroom door (but putting him in a carrier does help!)

Mobile grooming is like being treated to a spa day. No other animals around, just one on one attention for her, focusing on making her feel good. If your cat is new to professional grooming, elderly, particularly easily stressed, fearful or aggressive a mobile groomer can take away some of that fear and stress by keeping her in a familiar environment while saving you, the pet parent, time and inconvenience.

Mobile vs. Housecall

Both offer the convenience of having a groomer come to you and give you the gift of time. But they are a bit different. Consider what will work better for you and your furbaby.

  • The mobile groomer comes in a van and works in your yard while the housecall groomer is going to use your bathtub or a kitchen/laundry room sink.
  • Housecall offers your kitty a less stressful experience because he is in his own home. Mobile is fast, convenient, and removes any issues caused by other animals. But Kitty still has to leave her house and go to the mobile van in the yard. So the stress of an unfamiliar environment is still part of a mobile experience.
  • Housecall groomers give you more oversight. If your cat has special needs or is a difficult groom, the groomer is right there and can ask you questions and show you anything they run into. The housecall groomer, like your vet, can help you learn about your kitty’s well-being and health needs. Your groomer can help if you want to learn how to clip your cat’s nails by yourself.
  • Mobile doesn’t require clean up. Housecall groomers do clean up after the groom but, if you are like me, you clean up before you let anyone in your house. Even if they are there to clean your kitty.
  • Both mobile and housecall groomers will get to know you and your furbabies. You’ll see the same person each time.

Regular grooming keeps Kitty’s skin and coat healthy and keeps you aware of potential problems with her health. Grooming at home is a great option if you can’t do it yourself. A great mobile or housecall cat groomer is a partner in keeping your furbaby healthy and happy with a show cat shine.
