31 Ways to Celebrate National Cat Lovers Month

Last Updated on May 8, 2021 by Holly Anne Dustin

December is National Cat Lovers Month. I guess it is a month to celebrate us, the humans that love cats, but I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than doing something cat-related each day. I mean besides the everyday scooping and feeding stuff.

Here are some ideas you can use to celebrate National Cat Lovers Month.

  1. Teach your cat a new trick. Pick up a clicker and some special treats and teach your feline friend to high five or fist bump. Don’t forget to practice every day.
  2. Learn a new cat fact. The more you know the better cat guardian you can be.
  3. Volunteer as a cat cuddler for a local rescue or shelter. Well-socialized cats and kittens get adopted faster.
  4. Donate to your favorite rescue. You could even set up a monthly autoship of food or litter at Chewy or Amazon.
  5. Craft for the shelter cats. Fleece beds and toys are easy and fairly cheap to make. It would be great if each cat adopted had their own bed to take to their new home. Having their own scent is comforting and will help them adjust. Make one for your kitty too!
  6. Treat shelter workers to coffee and donuts.
  7. Read a book about cats. Try Think Like a Cat by Pam Johnson-Bennett. You can get it on audiobook too.
  8. Read a cat story. I like the Cat Land stories by Midnight the Rescue Panther (assisted by Keith Nichols.)
  9. Get your cat’s portrait done or do it yourself if you are artistic. Look for a cat artist or photographer to immortalize your cat.
  10. Take your leash-trained cat on an adventure. Go hiking or have a coffee date.
  11. Have a cat food drive for a food pantry or rescue that supports those that have fallen on hard times.
  12. Celebrate your cat love with your jewelry.

  13. Wear a cat theme shirt.
  14. Use your social media to share cat knowledge- share a new cat fact or news story. Keep it positive.
  15. Is there a cat that’s been at your favorite rescue for a long time? Share the kitty on your social media.
  16. Take a cat-loving friend for coffee at a cat cafe.
  17. Learn to trim your Kitty’s claws. Do it every 2-3 weeks.
  18. Brush or comb your kitty at least every week (more for longhaired cats.)
  19. Learn cat first aid and CPR. Find a class locally or online. Refresh your skills if you’ve done it before.
  20. Put together a disaster kit for your cat if you haven’t already. Review and replenish if you have one.
  21. Buy yourself a new cat themed coffee mug.
  22. Make some homemade cat treats for your cat. Share with a friend or rescue.
  23. Buy your cat a new toy. Take her to pick out her own if she’s used to traveling. Give her a good play session when you get home.
  24. Watch a cat movie with your cat.
  25. DIY a cat toy from recycled products.
  26. Make a shelter for feral cats, or donate one to a local community cats/TNR group
  27. Attend a cat show (or show your own cat.) Check the CFA and TICA websites to find one in your area.
  28. Buy a cat calendar for your office so you can enjoy your cat love all year long.
  29. Watch some cat videos. They make you laugh and feel good.
  30. Foster a cat or kitten. Consider a senior cat or shy kitten.
  31. Share a funny cat lovers meme. Keep it positive.
